The push and pull
The back and forth
Swaying side to side
The inhale exhale
Of each breathe
The way you strut your stride
We dreamed a dream
Till it came true
Till all there was
Was me and you
But then one day
We got a dog
Who jumped in bed
And pawed my head
So in those circling spheres
A fury thing appeared
With a wagging tail
And to no avail
I tried to teach
Her to poop outside
Oh yes
I tried
And then she died
The dog got sick
And we tried to care
For her somehow
I thew in the towel
She peed on things
Every night
And I got mad
We got in a fight
That’s about it
I called it quits
And our relationship
Fell apart
I still miss that dog
I found someone new
We’re doing great
And so did you
I guess that’s fate
There’s another dream
A world with no lies
No abuse or burdens
That keep us down tied
And even with another
I hope you stay
With that dream of tomorrow
Don’t let that go away
So fight the boss each day
Care for dogs and your man
Me I’m doing fine
And starting to understand
It takes a fight
And a poor dogs compassion
I could go all night
Imagining your reaction
But it’s time to end
This poem here
We’ll just be friends
And towards you I’ll steer clear
