When you look outside your window

Driving down the street

What do you see outside your window

people tired worn and weak

So I guess I’ll roll down my window

Someone’s asking for a hand

Ill help my nameless brother

I guess that’s what god commands

So when we look outside our windows

Expansive views and concrete gates

We see people they are striving

Drinking coffee trying to wake

A safe haven where the rents paid

To have a home this month

Pushed east into the desert

We commute to work and rush

Outside my window flowers blooming

Out my window all is lost

Out my window who you’re fooling

We’re all about to pay the cost

So if someone’s asking for a handout

Or just wants a friendly smile

Love your neighbor and your people

Sisters mothers children wild

I still look outside my window

And greet the sunlight streaming in

despite the haze of life’s indifference

There a new day will begin
